RAM stands for, Random Access Memory and it is a type of computer data storage. You might also hear people refer to it simply as, memory, even though there are many other kinds of memory that might exist inside of a computer. RAM is available in the form of integrated circuits which allow stored data to be accessed in any particular order, or at random.  More RAM means that you computer will be more capable of handling various processes and will work more quickly, smoothly and efficiently.  When you are in the process of personalizing your server, you will have options to upgrade the amount of RAM (measured here in megabytes and gigabytes, such as:

Clearance Servers

  • Additional 512MB RAM: $15/m
  • Additional 1GB RAM: $20/m
  • Additional 2GB RAM: $30/m

Single Processor Servers

  • 1GB DDR2 RAM: $15/m
  • 2GB DDR2 RAM: $30/m (not available to Windows Server 2003 Web Edition)
  • 4GB DDR2 RAM: $60/m (not available to Windows Server 2003 Standard Edition)

Dual Processor Servers

  • 2GB RAM ECC REGISTERED FB-DIMM(total 4GB): $40/m
  • 4GB RAM ECC REGISTERED FB-DIMM(total 6GB): $80/m
  • 8GB RAM ECC REGISTERED FB-DIMM(total 10GB): $160/m
  • 12GB RAM ECC REGISTERED FB-DIMM(total 14GB): $160/m
  • 14GB RAM ECC REGISTERED FB-DIMM(total 16GB): $280/m

NOTE: ECC registered RAM is priced in increments of $20/1GB of RAM and non-ECC registered RAM is priced in increments of $15/1GB of RAM.

The amount of RAM that can be added to your server depends on the server and the operating system.

  • Windows Server 2003 Web Edition has a 2GB of RAM maximum
